White Pillowcase Set

Cross-stitched white pillowcases depicting a cockerel, a man and a woman, and a patterned nature scene. The scenes depicted here are typical themes of embroidery in the island of Skyros, Greece. The bird is known as a cockerel and was used as a secret symbol of resistance to the Ottoman rule in Greece.
